Suspicious Device Closes Dallas Airport, Suspect on Way to Philadelphia
Officers from the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport Department of Public Safety and agents from the Transportation Security Administration are jointly investigating a suspicious device found inside a piece of luggage during a routine baggage screening this afternoon at DFW Airport.
The device, which resembles a pipe, was discovered during a TSA baggage screening operation in Terminal C, near Gate 21. The bag was dropped off there for screening by a passenger as required by law, and the passenger presumably proceeded into the secure areas of the airport to await a flight.
The bag remains inside the CTX screening machine at this hour, and DFW's Mobile Command Post and bomb squad have been called in for further investigation.
This particular area of Terminal C near Gate 21 on the public side has been evacuated and a three hundred foot perimeter has been established as a precaution during the investigation.
UPDATE: This piece of luggage belonged to a passenger on the way to Philadelphia. The passenger is in the air right now. He will be questioned upon landing in Philadelphia, says DFW Public Information Office.

Paul Kircher Show News
This just in....
Tomorrow's featured guest at 3PM EST on The Paul Kircher Show will be Michael Badnarick, the Libertarian canidate for President of the United States based on the story below.....
SUPPORTERS FILE PAPERS TO GET BADNARIK ON THE BALLOT IN PENNSYLVANIA
In an overwhelming show of support, Libertarian Party volunteers filed over 41,000 signatures on Thursday to place Presidential candidate Michael Badnarik on the ballot in Pennsylvania."The filing of such a large number of signatures yesterday show how Badnarik has a strong grass roots appeal in this state," said David Jahn, the Chair of the Pennsylvania Libertarian Party, who took part in the signature turn-in event in Harrisburg.
In Pennsylvania, a third party, or an independent candidate needs to collect over 25,000 signatures to be placed on the ballot. As of Thursday, the Libertarians were the only third party or independent group to file ballot access petitions to get their Presidential candidate on the ballot. The final deadline to file is Monday, August 2nd. The Pennsylvania filing means the party is well on it way to reaching its goal of getting the Badnarik/Campagna Presidential ticket on the ballot in all 50 states.
This contrasts with Ralph Nader's petition drive where, according to recent news stories, most people declined to help to put him on the ballot.
According to a nationwide survey of 1,000 American adults conducted last week by Rasmussen, Democratic challenger John Kerry (D-MA) leads incumbent president George W. Bush by a slim margin of 46-43% - within the 3% margin of error. However, when polled on their second choice, 43% of voters chose Badnarik rather than their first choice's main rival. This same poll shows Badnarik at 3% as their first choice if the election were to be held today.
According to Russ Diamond this proves that the Libertarian party is on the verge of a major breakthrough. "This will be the year that the country will elect Libertarians to higher offices than we have held previously," said Diamond, a resident of Annville, Lebanon County, who is running as a Libertarian in a very high profile two-race for State Representative. The Libertarian Party is America's third largest political party. In 2004, the party expects to field more than 1000 candidates nationwide. More than 600 Libertarians currently serve in public office.![]()

Floods Cause Evacuations in Philadelphia
Torrential Rain and Flash Floods Cause Airport Delays, Transit Stoppages, Evacuations in Philadelphia
DARBY, Pa. Aug. 2, 2004 — Torrential rain and flash floods caused airport delays, transit stoppages, apartment evacuations and a few vehicle rescues in the Philadelphia region.
Area roads including parts of the Schuylkill Expressway in Philadelphia were blocked, reopening Sunday afternoon.
In Upper Darby, flooding filled the basements and parts of the first floors of four apartment buildings, officials said. A supermarket and other businesses in the area were flooded, and cars were flipped on their sides or overturned by the floodwaters.
Nearby Darby borough declared a state of emergency and the American Red Cross was helping about 80 families totaling 250 people who were displaced, Mayor Paula Brown said.
"Some just got it in their basement, but we have a lot of people who lost everything," Brown said. She said more than 10 feet of water filled the basement and part of the first floor of some residences.
About 100 people were spending the night in Upper Darby High School and about 20 at an elementary school in Darby Borough while about 30 were in a North Philadelphia middle school, Red Cross spokeswoman Omoiye Kinney said Sunday night.![]()
