Barnes Foundation looking at two sites in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA The Barnes Foundation is considering two sites in downtown Philadelphia if it wins a judge's permission to move its impressive private art collection. The foundation needs the judge's approval to break its founder's will and move from its suburban home.

The foundation is considering space now used by a juvenile detention center -- or a space across from the Philadelphia Museum of Art, where baseball fields and a playground are now located.
The foundation's multi-(b) billion-dollar art collection includes dozens of Renoirs, Cezannes and Matisses.

The Barnes wants to move to the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, near several other city museums.
Foundation leaders say the museum will go broke if they aren't given permission to relocate from Lower Merion Township, where local restrictions have forced them to limit attendance.
